Frisco TX Homes for Sale and Community Information

Frisco, Texas, is a growing Dallas suburb located less than a half-an-hour from the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). In fact, in 2009 it was named as the "fastest growing city in America." In 1990, about 6,000 people lived here. Today the population exceeds 135,000. Forbes magazine named it seventh on its list of the "best places to move to" in the country. Today, Frisco is the home of numerous commuting professionals and others. In 2016, the Dallas Cowboys intend to move their corporate headquarters to Frisco.

History

Over a century-and-a-half ago, pioneers plied the old Shawnee Trail in wagon trains. The Preston Trail, as it was later called, was also used for cattle drives emanating from the Austin area. It eventually became Preston Road, a major north-south roadway in Texas. The Lebanon post office was established in the area in 1860. A "watering hole" for steam engines originated about four-miles west of town. That watering hole eventually became the final location of the community. Some ambitious residents literally rolled their homes on logs the four miles to the new location of the community. It was re-named "Frisco City" in 1904.

Parks and Recreation

The city of Frisco has built the Frisco Athletic Center for the residents to enjoy. This state-of-the-art center features 18,000 sq-ft of water-based activities indoors and another 40,000 sq-ft outdoors. Pizza Hut Park opened in 2005. As many as 20,000 fans can cheer at MLS soccer games here. The Dr. Pepper Arena can seat another 10,000 avid concert-goers at major events there.

Attractions and Activities

Frisco's Sci-Tech Discovery Center attracts science-minded students and others from across the metroplex. Kids of all ages can enjoy interactive lab experiences. The 150-store Stonebriar Centre is a major regional mall that locals can readily enjoy. IKEA opened one of its exclusive stores here in 2005. It features over 300,000 sq-ft of space.
